The Pillowman

The Pillowman presented by Snowglobe Theatre at MainLIne Theatre

by Martin McDonagh directed by Peter Giser

Starring Matias Rittatore, Jeroen Lindeman, Genti Bejko, Jonathan Reinglas, and Joanna Felemegos

The Pillowman is an award-winning play about the boundaries between life and art and what happens when these are blurred. It is a gruesome tale about sexual and child abuse and not for the faint of heart. However, for theater-goers who don't shun unpleasant topics it provides a unique perspective on a universal theme, albeit one of violence.

At once dark, intense, and dreamlike, with flecks of black humor, this unusual drama depicts the police investigation of a dubious artist in a foreign country where Habeas corpus and social normalcy have gone out the window.

The ensemble cast do a decent job of credibly portraying characters that are at once vulnerable and despicable. The direction, staging, lighting, sound, costumes, and graphic arts & illustration all augment the surreal reality of this macabre story.

The play is presented in the MiniMain at MainLine Theatre home to the annual Saint-Ambroise Montreal Fringe Festival. MainLine Theatre has a history of showcasing cutting-edge productions and is the perfect venue for this type of material.
