The Last Wife

By Deborah Rankin

Royal Entertainment at the Centaur Theatre

At a time when Royal-watching is all the rage The Last Wife lets viewers peek behind the curtain of the marriage of King Henry VIII and sixth wife Katherine Parr who managed to outlive her murderous husband. While the play is based on historical accounts this contemporary retelling is viewed through the lens of modernity, implicitly raising questions about the age-old battle of the sexes and the limits of power, interweaving themes of family ties and friendship in the royal household. Witty and thoroughly entertaining, this clever retake on courtly life and love in the early English Renaissance is the perfect antidote to winter blahs.

Written by Kate Hennig Directed by Eda Holmes Starring Diana Donnelly, Robert Persichini, Mikaela Davies, Anne-Marie Saheb, Antoine Yared, and Alessandro Gabrielli
