Hosanna at the Centaur Theatre

By Deborah Rankin

What is the truth and where does it lie? The Centaur Theatre's encore presentation of Tableau D'Hote Theatre's Hosanna by Montreal's renowned author Michel Tremblay explores this age-old question. This is the first-ever English performance of the award-winning play directed by Mike Payette translated from the original French text by John Van Burek and Bill Glassco. The theme revolves around life in Montreal's gay community in the 1970's when identity was personal rather than political. Eloi ArchamBaudoin does a superb job of portraying Cleopatra impersonator Hosanna a.k.a. Claude Lemieux while David Chiazzese's portrayal of leatherman-biker Cuirette is authentic. Light and shadow have symbolic meaning in this iconic work and lighting designer Audrey-Anne Bouchard comes in for special mention.

Hosanna - An iconic play by Michel Tremblay until June 10
