the children at the Centaur Theatre

Lucy Kirkwood's play the children directed by Eda Holmes is both entertaining and thought-provoking challenging audiences to ask questions about the world at large and what is owed to future generations. Co-produced by Centaur Theatre with Canadian Stage this kitchen-sink drama features veteran actor Fiona Reid (Rose) with Geordie Johnson (Robin) and Laurie Paton (Hazel). Things start to heat up when Rose arrives unexpectedly at the home of her married friends Hazel and Robin who have been forced to relocate to the outskirts of town because of a disaster in their farming community. The three have lots of catching up to do but do they really want to? Perhaps more importantly who are the children and where are their own? People of a certain age will readily identify with these sixty-something characters at once young at heart but still nagged by unresolved issues as they struggle to come to terms with the reality of their own lives and the world around them.
